This is such a fun new spin-off of The Wedding Pact series! You certainly don't have to read the previous books in order to pick this one up and start reading, but I highly recommend that you do! With that being said, who wouldn't want an incredibly hot, former US Marine for their next door neighbor? Kevin Vandemeer is gorgeous, he is hard working, but he can't seem to meet any woman that is not completely insane! His previous bad luck with dating has made him decide to swear off women altogether for at least the next six months. Then along comes Holly! She is smart, funny, and is in the process of building a business for herself. These two have such chemistry that you would think they were destined to be together! As luck would have it though, Holly and Kevin already have one very big thing in common; her boss is his mother. What a disaster! I highly suggest you read this book and fall in love with these characters as I have done, and I promise you wont be disappointed in their story! Kevin Vandemeer ask his sister to find him a house that he can flip. The only problem is the house she purchases for him a money pit. Making the best of trying to restore his house Kevin meets his neighbor. Holly's cousin insist that she take over lasagna to there new neighbor. Holly and Kevin end up sleeping together, but Kevin thinks she is some crazy people planning there wedding. Holly is disappointed that Kevin left without a word after there night together. Being force to go to her bosses daughter's baby shower Holley runs into Kevin who just so happens to be her boss from Hell son. What will they do but things only get worse when Kevin's fiance shows up at the shower too (well the women claiming to be this fiance). Too funny !!
I couldn't wait for this book and it was even better than my anticipation, I crazy loved it! Kevin is just home from the Marines and is looking forward to being an Uncle, hanging out with old friends and more than anything, steering clear of crazy potential girlfriends. All the while he's diving into his "money pit" fix up of a home so thoughtfully purchased by his hilarious sister.
God love Denise Grover Swank and her Vandemeer+ cast of characters. It was great to visit with Meghan, Josh, Knickers and Gram. Even better was sweet, special, talented and suddendly brazen Holly, after some wine of course.
With Knickers having herself in yet another twist, the laughs were plenty and story fun. Snap it up and enjoy! Oh, I also ejoyed the bit of sexy times! ;) Can't wait for next one.
We finally get to read the stories of some of the guys from the Wedding Pact series. Kevin, Megan's brother, is finally home from the military and looking to flip a house. He has sworn off women after all the crazy ex's he has had. Holly is Kevin's next door neighbor and has no time for men. She has to keep building her career to pay for her ailing grandmother's care. Fate really doesn't care what either one wants as she keeps throwing them together. Their are hilarious antics of course, and lots and lots of fun things happening. I can't wait to read about the rest of the guys and what and who happens to them.
What an amazing story. I loved it. The storyline was great I love Holly and Kevin. They are very strong characters. Holly's grandmother has Alzheimer's and I just lost my dad in Nov to it. So I know how worried Holly was about her grandmother. Great story.
I enjoyed the first book in this spin-off series from the Wedding Pact. The characters were both great- charming, nice, with an interesting background. I do like how this author writes her heroines. Even when they're vulnerable, they're strong and self-sufficient. It's always nice to know you can count on an author to deliver admirable characters. The dialogue and writing flowed very well, but I felt like the pacing drug a touch at times. It wasn't as funny as The Wedding Pact either. There was great moments that made me smirk our giggle, but it wasn't sustained and I think I was expecting more of that. I still enjoyed Only You and will read the whole Bachelor Brotherhood series, but Megan and Josh remain my favorites.
I love Denise Grover Swank, both as a person and an author. She has such great talent that I can't help but read everything she writes. While I may not love everything she writes (meaning giving everything 5 stars), I enjoy it. Her storytelling takes me away from it all, kind of like people wished Calgon would do in those old commercials. I get to dive into some crazy situations and relationships. Everything feels so real when she's describing it that it is hard not to get lost.
I haven't been a huge fan of romance because to me they are all the same girl meets boy, girl and boy have connection, something happens to drive them apart, they get back together, have hot passionate, descriptive sex, and live happily ever after. I'm not overly fond of those types of plots. While some of these things may happen in Denise's books, there is always an "other" associated with it. What I mean is that the characters aren't stupid, they talk to each other, they are adults (or at least mature in the case of her YA stuff), and they deal with life. The emotions invoked while reading her stories are genuine. They come from a place that seems to hide in all of us, whether we want to admit it or not. Denise has actually gotten me to take more chances on romance novels and I thank her for opening that closed off place that I never knew existed. Does this mean I'll start loving romance and defend it to my death? Not necessarily, but I definitely won't be turned off because of the genre.
*PS, I still don't like the sexy bits. You know, the hardened length and sensitive nub. I prefer grown up terms thank you.
