One of the most remarkable stories to come out of W.W.II. Based on the remarkable story of `The U-boat that lost its Nerve'(formerly a radio play by James Follett) , U-700 is an account of the surrender of a U-boat (actually U-570) to an RAF Hudson during World War II and the subsequent illegal court martial of the U-boat's first officer by his fellow officers in a POW camp.

This second book in a trilogy continues the story of German POWs held in England during WWII, begun with Follett's "A Cage of Eagles." I very much enjoy Follett's writing style and his accurate use for historic events, and this comes through in "A Forest of Eagles." Detracting from the enjoyment of this book are the all-too-numerous editing errors that I've never seen in print copies of Follett's books. The many editorial errors found in this Kindle book and the third in the trilogy ("Return of the Eagles") are absent in the Kindle edition of "A Cage of Eagles" which is also available in a print edition. Given that these errors appear in the Kindle-only editions of "A Forest of Eagles" and "Return of the Eagles," Amazon needs to hold the process of transcribing Kindle-only books to a higher standard than that used to produce this and the final book in Follett's trilogy.

DR H. Really e joyed seasoned novel 50per cent higher than the first I read last week . FOrrest of Eagles rounds out Otto Kruger _ and 20 per cent better character development Naval Cmdr.InfLuencing _ James bond. guy. Truly DRH
My father guarded German prisoners of war, I was enthralled how closely this story was supported by some of my Dad's stories. It was a good book, but I would liked to have all of them together. I'm also grateful that the information to read these as a series was very helpful to enjoying what I was reading.
I actually bought this series of 3 books by mistake. My favorite author is Ken Follett...thus the my mistake. The books are quick reads. The first 2 remind me of the German version of the American TV show Hogan's Heroes. The German officers and soldiers from captured U-boats are held at a converted English country estate being overseen by incompetent British counterparts. The goal is to escape the prison of war camp devising an "underground" economy and hierarchy to create a lifestyle that exceeds that of the British. Interesting character development.
I read each of the three books in this trilogy in sequence A Cage of Eagles; A Forest of Eagles; Return of the Eagles. The story is interesting, the characters are well developed and Follett’s style creates a visual context that supports and enhances the narrative. This is an entertaining series. Readers need to be aware that the version is replete with missing words, incorrect words, and poor paragraphing – all of which slow and interrupt the reading experience, and are increasingly pronounced with each successive book. It appears that the conversion from hard copy to was not copy edited. For a reader with a good understanding of English these are minimal barriers. English as second language readers may find these deficiencies to be especially significant.
I was looking for a new author and found James Follett mixed in with my favorite author Ken Follett. I bought the trilogy and will write one review covering all three. I think J Follett tells a wonderful story; entertaining and fun to read. He brings the characters to life and moves the story along at an enjoyable pace. The chapters are short, which I like since I frequently read going to work and back on the bus.

Although I have already purchased another J Follett book, there are a few things about the trilogy I did not like. First, he copied and pasted a lot from one book to the next. This is especially true about character descriptions. He could have taken the oportunity to add depth to the characters in each book rather than just copying description from one book to the next. I also think the last book ended very abruptly. I was reading and the story didn't seem to be at a stopping point but I turned the page and it said The End.

I don't blame the author, but there are a lot of typos in all 3 books. Lots of wrong words or missing words. I think that has more to do with the electronic processing than the competence of the author.
The above questions are hard to answer because halfway through the story changes from a tense escape tale to something closer to "Hogan's Heros". It begins with a german POW making a daring escape, living off the land and dodging search parties. Suddenly he blunders into the very mansion being used as a POW camp to which he was to be sent anyway! From there it becomes a tale of prisoners vs. guards and camp commander vs. bureaucratic red tape and other internal machinations. Just an odd change in the basic feel of the story. Still good, but odd. It's a good read and well worth the money.
Book two in the German POW series with most of the characters in the "cage" behaving fairly badly -though they'd deny this..

A submariner is on one which has surrendered. The Germans send him to Coventry pending his Court Marshall "when they win the War" because the Brits have their hands on a German sub and this threatens their submariners in the Atlantic.
The ostracised submariner seeks to redeem the conduct of his Kapitan by attempting to deprive the British of this vital intelligence.
I'm not going to ruin a great story by telling you any more! I really like this writer and have read many of his books-almost all enjoyable,
Another bargain read too!
